War memorial of the two world wars in the cemetery
main description
This memorial was erected in 1952 in honour of the soldiers from Rossignol who died during the two wars and of the Chasseurs Ardennais. The First World War turned Rossignol into a martyr village: about 4,000 German and French soldiers were killed during the battle of the 22nd of August 1914, over 100 inhabitants were shot, fire was set to several houses... Rossignol was spared during the Second World War. After the Frist World War, there has been a massive-scaled commemoration trend in Belgium: Rossignol covered with memorial to its victims. The names of the victims of the Second World War were often just engraved on the memorials of 1914-18. Nevertheless, Rossignol needed a new memorial because there was no memorial for hosting the names of the soldiers who died fighting duriong the two wars, nor for salutating the Chasseurs Ardennais' braveryadditional description
