Virton’s Biblio’Nef (contraction of library and nave in French) is located in the former chapel of the boarding school of the Sisters of the Christian Doctrine bought by the City of Virton in 2002. This new library, which merged the collections of the youth library of the “Maisons des Dominos” and the adult collection of the city library, came into being thanks to Pierre Scharff, burgomaster of the City.
The converted building opened its doors in May 2010. Whereas the Neo-Gothic exterior of the building was preserved, the inside was totally refurbished. When entering, one is immediately struck by the spacious nave, which is nowadays used as a forum and an exhibition centre. The media section is housed in the central glass tower, and the youth department in the former chancel. Adult literature can be found on the upper floor. A side passage gives access to a reading room situated in the former rood screen of the chapel. The original stained-glass windows give a touch of colour to this quality renovation.
