This cemetery was built by the Germans in 1917. It gathers 527 French soldiers and 298 German soldiers, victims of the fierce battles of Bellefontaine on the 22nd of August 1914. On that day, the 120th infanrey regiment, (3,400 men), the 19th horse-riders regiment (750 horse riders) and the 42nd Artillery regiment (36 guns) from the 4th French Army fighter for the village of Bellefontaine against the 10th Grenadiers Regiment (3.400 men), the 11th Horse riders Regiment and the 6th Artillery Regiment (42 guns) from the 5th German Army, commended by the Kronprinz. the victory went to France but it was useless because of the tragical defeat of the same army on the same day in Rossignol6730
