In the woods of Rossignol, there are two French military cemeteries that gather bodies of soldiers who died during the Battle of the borders which opposed the French army to the German one in August 1914. This peaceful cemetery in in the woods and it is part of the civilian herotage of Wallonia.
In 1917, the German soldiers decided to create military cemeteries to gather the bodies of thousands of French and German soldiers who died during the battle of Rossignol on August 22 1914.
So, there are three cemeteries in Rossignol among which the cemetery Le Plateau. 887 soldiers are burried in it: 738 French soldiers, 148 German soldiers and a Russian one. The necropolis was conceived in the shape of a regular hexagon.The graves are put in a circle around a point where a monument has been erected.
After the war, several French families have rapatried the bodies of their parents in their native towns and the German bodie shave been gathered in one only cemetery, the one of Termes, then of Virton.
